Masters Students Introductions: Round 1

The Center of Excellence would like to extend a belated "Welcome" to all the new masters students of Fall semester 2012. Get to know them below!

Jada Buckner

I am a Masters student here at ETSU. I graduated in May of 2012 from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.  While at NSU, I played NCAA DII women’s basketball.  At NSU, I was a part of President’s 64 which is a peer leadership group where I served on a committee with 63 other students, both graduate and undergraduate, and helped meet and make decisions with President Hanbury. Also at NSU, I researched with two other students and one of my mentors, Dr. Monique Mohka exploring biomechanical justification for training rowers using the power clean, which received honorable mention at the Undergraduate Student Symposium.  After I earn my master’s degree in May of 2014, I plan to continue to pursue my professional basketball career overseas.  In addition, I plan to become a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate or professional level.

Isaiah McBride BS, CSCS

I was raised in the small town of Princeton, Minnesota (way up north) where I graduated from Princeton High School. I grew up playing basketball and football, which became a passion of mine and ultimately led to my decision of pursuing a degree in this field. After high school graduation, I went on to attend Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota to pursue my BS in Exercise Science with an additional minor in nutrition. Following graduation from Winona State, I spent the summer of 2012 working as an intern for Acceleration Northwest in Minnesota. Our main focus was training high school athletes from a wide variety of sports through resistance training, speed, and plyometric programs. I am now pursuing an MA in Exercise and Sport Science here at ETSU. I am very fortunate to now call myself an ETSU Buccaneer and I look forward to continuing on with my education here. My primary goal as a professional is to one day be a successful strength and conditioning coach for a major university, preferably football or basketball.

Christine Coniglio

I am originally from Erie, PA where I was born and raised.  I received my undergrad from ETSU but not before visiting a “few” other universities along the way.  I was a collegiate athlete at Clarion University in Pennsylvania where I played for three years before transferring to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  From there I transferred once again to University of North Carolina Greensboro where I majored in Kinesiology, and made my final move to ETSU as an undergrad in 2008.

Sport has always played a significant role in my life.  But it was along my journey as an undergrad that I came to the quick realization that it was not athletes I wanted to work with, but rather those in the tactical world.  From 2004 to 2008 I spent each summer doing Ocean Rescue Lifeguarding where I was able to spend time training for something bigger than myself.  My physical condition became not just about winning a game, but sometimes meant the difference between life and death.  Through this time I had the privilege to work side by side with the local police and fire departments and was able to see how our “tactical” friends are often neglected  when it comes to their physical  condition, knowledge and training.  This is the very thing that prompted me to set my sights on helping those who help others.  I feel that I was privileged to come from a sporting background, and I want to devote everything I can to increase my knowledge in the Kinesiology and Sport Performance and make sure we can apply our education in the tactical world just as we do with our athletes.

Benjamin Dolewski

I have been involved with the fitness/sport industry for the past 7 years. I possess a bachelor of science in Exercise Science, which I obtained from James Madison University, as well as an associate degree in both Science and Business Administration from Wytheville Community College. Prior to attending ETSU, I worked with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Corporate Wellness Manager in Roanoke, VA. Before becoming interested in corporate wellness, I was a fitness program coordinator at the Wytheville Community Center where I managed the fitness center and different weight loss and fitness programs.  I have further put to use my 11 fitness related certifications as I conducted and continue to conduct personal training sessions and group fitness classes.  I have also enjoyed working with doctoral student, Chris MacDonald, and the University School basketball team.  While at ETSU, I wish to gain as much hands on experience as I can, in the lab, as well as in classroom, to prepare me for my future studies as a physical therapy doctoral student.
